GDC names first appointed chair

31st May 2013

The General Dental Council (GDC) has appointed Bill Moyes as its new chair, effective as of October 1st 2013.

Mr Moyes was approved by the GDC privy council and becomes the first appointed chair of the GDC, where he will lead a newly constituted council with 12 members, rather than the current 24.

He spent 20 years working in civil service roles before later going on to serve as director general of the British Retail Consortium and founding executive chairman of Monitor, the Independent Regulator of NHS Foundation Trusts.

Over the next two months, he will be involved in the selection of the GDC's 11 other Council members, who will also take office at the beginning of October 2013.

Kevin O'Brien, the GDC's current chair, said Mr Moyes' "wide experience, including that of  healthcare regulation, will be of great benefit to the GDC in meeting the challenges and changes ahead and continuing with our improvement programme".

The GDC is in charge of regulating dental professionals in the UK, including clinical technicians, hygienists, dental nurses, dental therapists and orthodontic therapists.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801593044-ADNFCR
