GDC reappoints David Murphy as council member

12th April 2010

The General Dental Council (GDC) has reappointed David Murphy, deputy secretary of the Northern Ireland Local Government Pension Scheme (NILGOSC), as a member of its council.

Mr Murphy has rejoined the organisation’s council having previously acted as a lay member on the 24-person board between 2003 and 2009.

In addition to his position at NILGOSC, the executive is also currently a member of the General Chiropractic Council, as well as being a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.

His former roles include positions at Methodist College, Grant Thornton and Queen’s University Belfast.

Mr Murphy has already commenced his new term on the council as of the beginning of this month and will remain a member until September 30th 2013.

This appointment comes after Suzanne Cosgrave last month announced her retirement from the council having been a lay member since 2003, meaning the GDC will also require a replacement chair for its finance and human resources committee.
