GE Healthcare receives CE Mark for breast tomosynthesis system

GE Healthcare has been granted European CE Mark accreditation for SenoClaire, a next-generation breast tomosynthesis solution designed with 3D imaging technology.

The new system is powered by ASiRDBT, an iterative reconstruction algorithm that produces images similar to those offered by full-field digital mammography and positively impacts microcalcification conspicuity.

It uses a low-dose short X-ray sweep around the positioned breast with nine exposures acquired with a step-and-shoot method, thereby removing the potential motion from images, while the system also requires lower dosage than traditional digital mammography.

Initial shipments have started in Europe, the Middle East, Australia and Latin America, with solid levels of customer demand having been reported.

Prahlad Singh, general manager for women's health at GE Healthcare's detection and guidance solutions division, said: "We continue to innovate our portfolio and aim to help clinicians expand care to more women globally in order to help reduce breast cancer."

This comes after the firm acquired new mammography assets from Rayence last month to further augment its global portfolio of women's health technology.
