GE Healthcare technology used in award-winning medical imaging

GE Healthcare has announced that its medical imaging technology has been used by Professor Patrick Flamen to capture an award-winning image.

Professor Flamen of the Institut Jules Bordet in Brussels used the company's Discovery PET/CT 690 and PET VCAR 2.0 systems to capture the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging's 2013 Image of the Year.

The scan – which illustrated the effectiveness of radium-223 dichloride in treating bone metastases in breast cancer patients with bone-dominant disease – was selected as the winning image from more than 2,000 studies.

Steve Gray, president and chief executive officer of GE Healthcare's molecular imaging business, said: "The Institut Jules Bordet continues to be at the forefront of using this technology and GE Healthcare's Discovery PET/CT 690 is excellent for the image quality and speed desired in these procedures."

This comes after the firm received European CE Mark accreditation for SenoClaire, a next-generation breast tomosynthesis solution designed with 3D imaging technology.
