GE Healthcare to acquire mammography assets from Rayence
GE Healthcare has announced the acquisition of mammography assets from Rayence, which will be absorbed by its detection and guidance solutions business unit.
Purchasing these assets from Rayence – a subsidiary of the South Korean X-ray technology manufacturer Vatech – will allow GE Healthcare to expand its range of offerings to the value mammography segment for the first time.
The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2013 and allows the company to deliver solutions to new users and rural communities around the world – particularly physicians undertaking screening programs for breast cancer diagnosis.
Prahlad Singh, general manager for women's health at GE Healthcare's detection and guidance solutions division, said: "When combined with GE's core imaging capabilities, we will create a system that will have best-in-class image quality at the lowest total cost of ownership."
This comes after the firm recently announced the acquisition of the transactional business of Unisyn Medical Technologies for an undisclosed fee.
