GE Healthcare to purchase Unisyn’s transactional business

GE Healthcare has agreed a deal whereby it will acquire the transactional business of Unisyn Medical Technologies for an undisclosed fee.

The proprietary products and services purchased from the ultrasound probe repair solutions provider will be integrated into GE Healthcare's global services organisation and offered initially to customers in North America, with a global rollout to follow later this year.

UniSyn is known for the development of the FirstCall probe-testing device, which can be used to diagnose, repair and thoroughly evaluate each probe before they are shipped back to the customer.

Following this takeover, Unisyn's diagnostic imaging field services business will operate independently under a new name.

Mike Swinford, president and chief executive officer of global services for GE Healthcare, said: "The combination of Unisyn's repair expertise and GE's scale will provide value by meeting customers' needs with a fast cost-effective and reliable probe repair solution."

Earlier this month, GE Healthcare launched Mavric SL, a new magnetic resonance imaging technology innovation that can accurately image soft tissue and bone in patients with joint replacements and other implanted devices.
