Grifols gets stake in biotech company

20th January 2009

Grifols has announced it has received a stake in Cardio3 BioSciences.

The Spanish company said it has entered the collaboration as a result of subscribing to the capital increase, meaning it can further its research and development programme.

It noted there is a possibility it could become a preferred supplier of cell collection bags, as part of its diagnostic division, based in Murcia.

The organisation continued: “In addition, the biopharmaceutical engineering arm, Grifols Engineering, could become one of the technological partners in the design and operation of the new plant Cardio3 BioSciences intends to build.”

The deal could also result in a license that would give the company permission to distribute Cardio3 BioSciences’ products in Spain and Portugal.

Last year, Grifols unveiled Blispack at the 53rd National Congress of the Hospital Pharmacy Spanish Society in Valencia.

The product allows medical staff to electronically check the medication administered to patients is the correct drug.
