Home secretary welcomes new ACMD members
Home secretary Jacqui Smith has welcomed the new appointments to the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD).
Dr Fiona Measham ? senior lecturer in criminology at Lancaster University and Dr Anita Nola, honorary senior lecturer in oral medicine at Dundee Dental Hospital will serve on the board for a period of three years.
Both roles have been made in accordance with the Code of Practice of the Commissioner for Public Appointments and neither will receive any remuneration.
The two new members will join a team of 30 and Professor David Nutt is the chair of the body.
“I welcome the new members to the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs and the experience and skills that they will bring,” said Ms Smith. “I look forward to working with them over the coming years.”
Established in 1971, the ACMD aims to monitor and review the issue of drug misuse in the UK to try and prevent social problems arising.
