Janssen Animal Health warns of worm danger to pheasant breeding

19th April 2011

Janssen Animal Health has issued a warning to pheasant producers in the UK over the danger that worm infestations can pose to animals.

The veterinary medicines firm, which is responsible for the licensed treatment Flubenvet, is moving to raise awareness of the parasitic worm issue ahead of the rise in temperatures associated with spring.

Phil Macdonald, pig and poultry business manager for the company, noted that the number of infective eggs is likely to be on the rise, with infection risks coming from sources such as faeces and the consumption of invertebrates.

As such, Mr Macdonald highlighted the importance of worming treatments such as Flubenvet, which has proven efficacy against species such as gapeworms, caecal worms and large roundworms.

He said: "This ensures you get the job done and help to provide healthy, robust birds for rearing."

Last month, Janssen Animal Health received a takeover bid from pharmaceutical company Lilly, which operates the Elanco veterinary medicines business.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800505926-ADNFCR
