Directors’ Report
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
The activity of the company is the sale and distribution of pharmaceutical products. The development of new and existing products and processes continues to be important to the success of the company in all areas of the business.

BUSINESS REVIEW
The business has continued to grow during 2007. The external commercial environment is expected to remain competitive in 2008 as competitors continue to invest in their products. Also, patent expiry of some of the company?s products will present challenges to its business. However, the firm remains confident that its growth products will continue to be competitive in the future.

In 2007 the company undertook a significant restructuring exercise and provided in full for all costs of 4.4 million pounds. The restructuring resulted primarily in the reduction of the sales force in order to enable the company to continue to adapt to changing healthcare market conditions. It said 96 per cent of the restructuring had been completed by the end of January 2008.

RESULTS
Turnover increased by 5.2 per cent from 241 million pounds to 254 million pounds. Profit fell by 29 per cent from 24.7 million pounds to 17.5 million pounds.

The number of employees was reduced in 2007 from 853 to 836 on 2007. Employment costs rose from 57.7 million pounds to 64.4 million pounds.
