KCI commences new NPWT study

KCI has initiated patient enrolment for a new clinical study assessing the benefits of negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) plus intermittent instillation therapy with a topical wound cleanser.

The trial will compare traditional NPWT – using the VAC Negative Pressure Wound Therapy System – to adjunctive treatment with VAC VeraFlo Instillation Therapy, utilising the VAC Ulta Negative Pressure Wound Therapy System.

Patients with wounds that require hospital admission and serial surgical debridement will be enrolled at six investigative centres across the US.

The new trial follows an earlier Georgetown University study suggesting that the VAC VeraFlo Instillation Therapy option can lead to a significant decrease in operating room visits.

Dr Ron Silverman, chief medical officer at KCI, said: "This study further demonstrates the KCI commitment to and investment in the new future of NPWT with instillation therapy and better treatment solutions for our customers and patients."

This comes after the firm recently expanded its medical technology portfolio with the global launch of the CelluTome Epidermal Harvesting System, for use in skin graft applications.
