Leica Microsystems launches new laboratory imaging devices

Leica Microsystems has introduced two new high resolution imaging systems for use in laboratory research applications.

The imaging technology firm has launched the Structured Illumination upright microscope and the TCS (True Confocal Scanner) SPE system, both of which are designed to provide high performance while remaining cost effective.

According to the manufacturer, the Structured Illumination system allows high-contrast 2D and 3D fluorescence images to be captured, using OptiGrid modular technology to offer time-saving benefits and compatibility with other units.

Meanwhile, the TCS SPE is described as a true point-scanning spectral system which facilitates fluorescence imaging of live or fixed cells via a compact, reliable design.

Leica Microsystems stated that the two innovations will "make it more affordable to capture stunning images for publication".

This comes after the company won awards at the European Scanner Contest last month, honouring the quality of its Slide Scanner Leica SCN400 and Autoloader Leica SL801 units for digital pathology.
