Life Technologies arm announces new genomic analysis tools

Life Technologies division Applied Biosystems has introduced a new selection of genomic analysis tools to assist the work of researchers in the field.

Designed to aid those working on studies that involve the association of genetic variation with specific diseases, MeltDoctor High-Resolution Melt (HRM) Reagents are part of a polymerase chain reaction-based (PCR) workflow and allow for the effective scanning of biological DNA samples.

The reagents also allow the characterisation of variant nucleic acid sequences for advanced genomics applications, such as mutation scanning, genotyping, and methylation analysis.

John Gerace, vice-president and general manager of Life Technologies’ PCR Systems, stated: "The MeltDoctor High-Resolution Melt Reagents significantly enhance HRM analysis, while broadening our offerings for technologies that contribute to the understanding of genetic variation for translational research applications."

Earlier this month, Life Technologies announced that it had sold the majority share of its mass spectrometry business to Danaher for a total of $450 million (276 million pounds).
