Lilly reports positive data for LUTS/BPH Cialis study

Lilly has reported positive data from a clinical trial of a new therapy for men with lower urinary tract symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (LUTS/BPH) and enlarged prostates.

The 26-week trial combined Lilly's approved BPH therapy Cialis with finasteride, finding that this combination therapy delivered improvements in terms of patients' International Prostate Symptom Scores.

Additionally, the treatment met its secondary endpoint of  improved erectile function scores compared to finasteride plus placebo, suggesting this new approach could offer benefits to men over the age of 45 who are affected by this condition.

Dr Claus Roehrborn, chairman at the department of urology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, said: "These results can help prescribers make better informed decisions when treating their patients."

Earlier this month, the company reported positive data from a new study of the drug Livalo, carried out in conjunction with Kowa Pharmaceuticals, showing that the therapy can deliver improvements for HIV-infected adults with high cholesterol.
