Medtronic launches new electrophysiology recording catheter

Medtronic has announced the launch of a new intra-cardiac electrophysiology recording catheter for use in the treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.

The Achieve Mapping Catheter has been released in Europe after receiving CE Mark approval and is designed for the assessment of pulmonary vein isolation among patients.

Used in conjunction with the Medtronic Arctic Front Cardiac CryoAblation Catheter System, the new device helps clinicians to map electrical conduction between the left atrium and pulmonary veins, as well as providing data on pulmonary vein potentials before and after cryoablation.

The manufacturer states that the catheter can help to make the minimally invasive pulmonary vein isolation process simpler to accomplish.

Last week, the company announced that it has acquired rights to a new gel product from Otago Innovation and Adelaide Research and Innovation that can help to control bleeding after functional endoscopic sinus surgery.
