Medtronic reports durability benefits of VenaSeal Closure System
Medtronic has announced 12-month results from a pivotal study showing the benefits of its VenaSeal closure system.
New findings from the VeClose pivotal study have demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of VenaSeal for the treatment of incompetent greater saphenous veins, with the device demonstrating a 96.8 percent closure rate.
The VenaSeal closure system is a unique, minimally invasive, non-tumescent, non-thermal and non-sclerosant procedure that uses an advanced adhesive to close the diseased vein in patients with symptomatic venous reflux disease.
Unlike other treatments, the system does not require tumescent anaesthesia, allowing patients to return to their normal activities following the procedure. It also eliminates the risk of nerve or other heat-related injury associated with thermal-based procedures.
Dr Mark Turco, medical director for the aortic and peripheral vascular division at Medtronic, said: "The 12-month results of the VeClose trial demonstrates the durability of the system. This, combined with the improved patient comfort and reduced recovery times of the VenaSeal closure system, makes this a clinically-proven, patient-friendly treatment option."
VenaSeal is currently approved in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Europe, Hong Kong and the US, with more than 2,000 patients having been treated with the system.
