Merck Millipore marks World Water Week with charity donation
Merck Millipore marked World Water Week from September 1st to 6th 2013 by providing a donation to the humanitarian organisation charity: water.
The $30,000 (18,800 pounds) contribution brings the company's total donations to charity: water in the last five years to $70,000, with the latest batch of funding to be used to finance community water projects in Ethiopia.
It is hoped that the organisation will be able to bring full coverage to the northern region of Tigray and further its overall goal of ensuring that clean water is accessible to everyone, even those in impoverished tropical regions.
World Water Week takes place annually and is designed to provide a forum for conversation and best practices between scientific, business and political stakeholders regarding the clean water crisis.
Klaus Bischoff, head of lab solutions at Merck Millipore, said: "As a leading supplier of tools, technologies and water filtration to the life science industry … we recognise the importance of water conservation, water quality and access to clean water."
This comes after 150 cyclists from Merck Millipore and Merck Serono took part in a charity bike ride earlier this summer to raise money for multiple sclerosis research.
