Merck Sharp and Dohme reports 2012 CSR progress

Merck Sharp and Dohme has published its global corporate responsibility report for 2012, a year that saw the company achieve significant progress on a number of issues.

The company was able to reach 269 million people around the world through its major corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes and partnerships last year, with its global corporate giving coming to $1.7 billion (1.12 billion pounds).

It demonstrated its commitment to environmental protection by recycling and reusing 3.3 billion gallons of water during 2012, while also meeting its goal of reducing its 2009 greenhouse gas emission levels by ten percent three years early.

The report also noted that the company now has 31 percent representation for women in executive roles, with its Merck for Mothers project helping to support women's issues by developing new partnerships to reduce maternal mortality.

Merck Sharp and Dohme issued the report in the same week as its financial results publication for the second quarter of 2013, which showed that the firm generated worldwide sales of $11 billion during the period.
