Merck Sharp and Dohme reports positive new clinical trial data for Emend

3rd July 2015

Merck Sharp and Dohme has announced positive clinical trial data showing the safety and efficacy of single-dose Emend for Injection, its new substance P/neurokinin receptor antagonist.

The phase III trial showed the product's effectiveness in combination with other anti-vomiting medicines for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting in adult cancer patients receiving moderately emetogenic chemotherapy.

It was shown that the Emend regimen provided greater protection from nausea and vomiting, following administration of chemotherapy, versus an active control of placebo with other anti-vomiting medicines.

Findings from this clinical trial will be used to support future regulatory applications for the product.

Stuart Green, vice-president for clinical research at Merck Research Laboratories, said: "Nausea and vomiting remain a significant burden for patients receiving chemotherapy and we look forward to submitting these data for Emend for Injection to the US Food and Drug Administration."

This comes after the firm recently announced new clinical data showing the efficacy of Emend in paediatric cancer patients.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801793289-ADNFCR
