Merial receives delivery of new nozzle technology from Bioject

8th April 2010

Merial has been provided with new auto-disable nozzle technology from collaborative partner Bioject as part of the development of a next-generation vaccination device.

The needle-free injection systems specialist has met its final milestone under the development agreement with Merial by delivering the nozzles, which will now be used to create the spring-powered device.

Merial states that the nozzles will form a key part of the vaccination system, which is designed to be used to deliver a wide variety of treatments to both feline and canine patients.

Dr Robert Menardi, director of companion animal vaccines marketing at Merial, said: “The benefit of the Bioject device is that it enables precise and efficient delivery of our innovative vaccines, with less stress on dogs and cats.”

Other benefits set to be offered by the system include flexible dosages, consistent penetration depth and cost reductions.

Merial revealed last month that it is to merge with Intervet/Schering-Plough to create one of the largest companies in the animal health sector.
