Movetis commences phase III study of Resolor for male patients
Movetis has begun a new clinical trial which is intended to establish the efficacy of its chronic constipation treatment Resolor among male patients.
The company has begun screening the first patients to be involved in the phase III study, which will run for 12 weeks and involve 348 men drawn from nine European countries.
Movetis intends to submit data from this trial in late 2012 or early 2013, with the aim of using the findings to support an expansion of the current label of Resolor to include male patients.
The treatment is currently indicated for females only, based on a lack of safety and efficacy data regarding males from previous clinical trials.
Dirk Reyn, chief executive officer of Movetis, said: "The clinical trial programme that we initiated today is the latest step in a well-thought-out label expansion strategy for Resolor."
Resolor went on sale in the UK earlier this year and has won a recommendation from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.
