New campaign to highlight dangers of smoking indoors
Public Health England has launched a campaign that aims to underline the hidden and unknown dangers caused by smoking inside the home or cars.
TV and online advertising is set to debut that will demonstrate that smoking out of a car window or the back door is not enough to protect children from secondhand smoke, more than 80 percent of which is invisible and odourless.
Data from the Royal College of Physicians shows that more than 800 children visit their doctor every day due to the serious effects of secondhand smoke exposure.
Moreover, a recent government survey revealed that 68 percent of parents who smoke admit to doing so in the car with their children present.
Chief medical officer Professor Dame Sally Davies said: "Our message is clear: giving up smoking is by far the best way to protect your family and we can help you quit to give you and your loved ones a healthier future."
This comes after the the government launched a successful smoking cessation campaign called Stoptober in October 2012, which was supported by celebrities such as Ian Wright and Kate Walsh.
