NHS England issues call to action on improving general practice

15th August 2013

NHS England has issued a new call to action as it seeks to determine the best way of developing and improving general practice in the future.

The organisation is calling upon local communities, clinicians and healthcare stakeholders to engage with a review of the current primary care system and aid the development of a long-term, effective solution.

It hopes to stimulate debate in local communities among GP practices, clinical commissioning groups, area teams, health and wellbeing boards and other community partners on the best way to develop services.

NHS England is also inviting comments about how it can best support local changes, such as through the way national contractual frameworks are developed.

This move has been welcomed by the Royal College of GPs (RCGP), which said that greater investment in general practice will play a crucial role in any improvement efforts.

RCGP chair Dr Clare Gerada said: "This is a much-needed and long overdue opportunity to look at general practice from the inside out."ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801625683-ADNFCR
