Norgine completes enrolment for bowel surgery recovery treatment

Norgine has completed enrolment for a new clinical trial of TZP-101, a new treatment for the acceleration of gastrointestinal recovery among bowel surgery patients.

The company, along with partner Tranzyme Pharma, has concluded its recruitment efforts for ULISES 007, the first of two pivotal phase III trials that will compare the performance of the intravenous ghrelin agonist to placebo.

Over the course of ULISES 007 and the accompanying ULISES 008, around 300 patients undergoing partial bowel resection in the US and Europe are to be involved.

Enrolment for ULISES 008 is expected to be completed in the first half of 2012, with Norgine holding the rights to TZP-101 in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East and Africa.

Dr Vipin Garg, president and chief executive officer of Tranzyme Pharma, said: "Completing enrolment in ULISES 007 is an exciting milestone for our TZP-101 programme. We expect to report top-line results from this trial in the spring of 2012."

This comes after Norgine announced a new collaboration with Jubilant Biosys in October 2011 that aims to provide further insight into new gastrointestinal therapies.
