Novartis reports positive trial data for Ultibro Breezhaler

Novartis has announced new analyses of data for its once-daily chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) therapy Ultibro Breezhaler that demonstrates the efficacy of the product.

Results from the Ignite clinical trial programme outlined at the European Respiratory Society annual meeting revealed that the drug was able to provide superior, rapid and sustained improvements in lung function and significantly reduce shortness of breath versus comparator therapies.

Meanwhile, findings from the Blaze study further confirmed its impact on shortness of breath  symptoms, with data from the Spark trial indicating that it can provide similar rates of reduction in exacerbations to the established therapy Seebri Breezhaler.

Tim Wright, head of development at Novartis Pharmaceuticals, said: "Novartis is pleased that these new analyses further support that the efficacy of dual therapy, which has the potential to make a real difference to peoples' lives."

Ultibro Breezhaler is a fixed-dose combination of the bronchodilators Onbrez Breezhaler and Seebri Breezhaler and has been recommended for EU approval by the European Medicines Agency's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use.
