Novo Nordisk to expand Kalundborg production site

Novo Nordisk has announced that it will be making a fresh investment in its Danish manufacturing site in Kalundborg, with the aim of expanding the plant's capabilities.

An additional 380 million Danish kroner (44.24 million pounds) will be allocated to convert manufacturing capacity in an existing facility to allow for future production of semaglutide, a new treatment for type 2 diabetes that the firm is currently developing.

This project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year and will create 50 new production and engineering jobs in Kalundborg, where the firm already employs more than 2,400 people.

Additionally, Novo Nordisk is hoping to create a new facility at the location for the production of biopharmaceuticals, such as haemophilia medicines and growth hormones.

Per Valstorp, senior vice-president for product supply at Novo Nordisk, said: "This year alone Novo Nordisk has created 100 new jobs in Kalundborg and we are constantly looking for talented and skilled people."

In the first quarter of 2013, the company generated 20 billion Danish kroner in sales, representing a year-on-year increase of 14 percent.
