Novo Nordisk’s Tresiba shows long-term efficacy in new study

Novo Nordisk has announced the results of a new study of Tresiba that demonstrates the diabetes therapy's effectiveness over an extended period.

Data presented at the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes revealed that the majority of type 2 diabetes patients receiving treatment with Tresiba plus metformin were able to maintain good glycaemic control for two and a half years.

It was shown that 80.5 percent of patients who experienced good glycaemic control after two years on this treatment regimen continued to do so in a further 26-week add-on study.

These findings further underline the benefits provided by Tresiba, which was developed and recently launched by Novo Nordisk following its approval in key territories including the EU.

Lead study investigator Professor Chantal Mathieu of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium said: "These results demonstrate that Tresiba enables patients with type 2 diabetes to sustain long-term control."

This comes after the company presented study data earlier this year that demonstrated the quality of life benefits associated with Tresiba.
