Outcomes from Truvian’s Blood-testing Benchtop Equipment Published
US based blood diagnostics firm, Truvian Health, published data last week demonstrating that the outcomes of their benchtop lab equipment frequently align with those produced by major testing facilities.
Although these findings are encouraging, and support Truvian’s goal of making clinical testing openly accessible and decentralised, they also raise new concerns about the efficacy of a strategy that was popularised by Theranos. For context, Theranos was a consumer healthcare firm that was setup in 2003, it focused on producing new technology within the blood testing sector but was later charged with wire fraud.
Truvian examined samples for a significant number of blood-based parameters, including cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood cell counts, all of which are frequently requested by doctors.
With only a small number of outliers, outcomes from the benchtop equipment closely corresponded to values from Roche and Sysmex systems which are currently used in central laboratories.
The results were unveiled at the American Association for Clinical Chemistry’s 2023 conference, marking it the inaugural occasion whereby Truvian has disclosed any clinical information.
They intend to file an FDA application in the later months of next year.
