Oxoid launches new culture method for salmonella in food

10th October 2007

Oxoid has announced the launch of a new culture method for the differentiation, isolation and identification of salmonella species from foods.

Called the Oxoid Salmonella Rapid Culture Method, the process provides presumptive positive colonies in 42 hours, around 24-48 hours faster than traditional methods, the firm asserts.

Industrial applications manager at Oxoid Cheryl Mooney states: "The identification of Salmonella contamination is a critical function in food microbiology laboratories and delays can have an enormous impact on the efficiency and economy of businesses."

She added that the new method saves time as well as resources by reducing the number of colonies that require confirmation.

The process combines the features of two existing products, Oxoid Salmonella Chromogenic Medium Mark II and ONE Broth Salmonella, according to the company.

Last month, Oxoid announced the extension of its range or products for the growth and recognition of moulds and yeasts through the introduction of the Remel RapID Yeast Plus identification panel.
