PerkinElmer launches fluorescent imaging agent for toxicology

PerkinElmer has announced the launch of GFR-Vivo 680, a new fluorescent agent that allows researchers to measure glomerular filtration rate (GFR) non-invasively.

The product is designed for use with fluorescence molecular tomography imaging and provides a new way of generating consistent GFR measurements in animal models of kidney disease, dysfunction and drug toxicity.

Using this agent, researchers can get an accurate readout of GFR levels in vivo without needing to rely on blood or urine sampling or labour-intensive microplate assays, making it advantageous compared to traditional solutions.

This could be an important product launch given GFR's status as the leading standard for measuring kidney function and its common use in determining the progression of kidney disease, as well as drug-induced kidney toxicity.
