Pfizer Animal Health highlights calf preconditioning benefits

16th August 2010

Pfizer Animal Health has underlined the health and productivity benefits which calf preconditioning programmes can deliver to the cattle production sector.

The company has highlighted data from a recent study which showed that preconditioning programmes such as Pfizer's SelectVAC are able to make animals less susceptible to illness, as well as more likely to gain weight.

According to Dale Grotelueschen, a doctor of veterinary medicine for Pfizer Animal Health Veterinary Operations, it can also help to make calves deal with the stress of weaning and "thrive" in the feedlot.

He stated that this will assist the producer in cutting down on treatment costs, as well as benefiting from higher quality meat and daily gains.

"Healthy cattle meet the beef industry's most important customer demand for a quality end product, which was raised under the highest animal husbandry standards," Dr Grotelueschen added.

According to the group's most recent financial report, Pfizer Animal Health has seen major growth in the last year, with revenue increasing 38 per cent year-on-year in the second quarter.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800026355-ADNFCR
