Pfizer looks forward to welcoming Wyeth scientists

Pfizer looks forward to welcoming “distinguished” scientists from Wyeth into its organisation, it has stated.

The comment came from the former’s chief executive officer Jeff Kindler after the firm announced the leadership and organisational structure it has planned once the acquisition of the latter is complete.

Pfizer will create two distinctive research divisions to maximise potential biopharmaceutical investigations.

Martin Mackay, who at present leads the company’s global research and development department, will lead the PharmaTherapeutics Research Group, which will focus on discovering small molecules.

Current president of Wyeth Research Mikael Dolsten will run the large-molecule investigations in the BioTherapeutics Research Group.

Mr Kindler explained having a top scientist from each company run the two departments will prove to be beneficial.

“Our approach to research will fuel our discovery efforts, inspire top talent and translate into high-impact new medicines for patients,” he remarked.

It is an honour to have such researchers to work with, Mr Wyeth concluded.

Last week, the Federal Trade Commission requested further information from Pfizer about the proposed takeover. The company asserted it had anticipated such an appeal and added it would work cooperatively with the body.
