Pfizer reports positive data from new Trumenba trials
Pfizer has announced positive topline results of two phase III studies of its meningococcal group B vaccine Trumenba.
The first of these studies included approximately 3,600 healthy individuals between the ages of ten and 18 years, while the other study enrolled around 3,300 healthy individuals aged between 18 and 25.
Both trials met all primary immunogenicity endpoints, demonstrating robust immune responses against certain invasive meningococcal B strains after the vaccine dose series. Safety and tolerability data was also consistent with the findings of previous studies.
The strong performance of the vaccine in clinical studies has led to it receiving accelerated approval status from the US Food and Drug Administration.
Dr Kathrin Jansen, senior vice-president of vaccine research and development for Pfizer, said: "The phase III data extends the body of evidence that supports vaccination of adolescents and young adults with Trumenba to help prevent serogroup B meningococcal disease."
This comes after the firm recently announced that its new breast cancer therapy Ibrance has been validated for European Medicines Agency review.
