Pfizer study data shows efficacy of Trumenba in young patients
Pfizer has announced results from two phase III clinical trials that support the strong performance of its meningococcal group B vaccine Trumenba.
Results from the two trials have underlined the immunogenicity of Trumenba against invasive meningococcal B strains representative of prevalent strains in the US and Europe.
The two studies – one in adolescents and one in young adults – met all of their primary immunogenicity endpoints, with secondary data also showing similar immune responses against ten additional meningococcal group B strains.
This phase III data will support a number of planned upcoming global regulatory submissions in the US and elsewhere.
Dr Kathrin Jansen, senior vice-president and head of vaccine research and development for Pfizer, said: "This data supports the expectation that vaccination with Trumenba will help prevent this uncommon but devastating disease in adolescents and young adults."
This comes after the firm received European regulatory approval for a new multi-dose vial presentation of its pneumococcal disease vaccine Prevenar 13 last month.
