Pfizer to present data on new cancer treatments

Pfizer is to attend the upcoming American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) 101st Annual Meeting 2010 in order to present data on its new advances in oncology treatment.

The company will be present at the AACR event between April 17th and 21st to highlight the developmental progress of promising new compounds such as crizotinib, sunitinib and axitinib.

Many of these treatments have been highlighted as potentially important innovations by Pfizer as they are based on newly-identified therapeutic targets, such as anaplastic lymphoma kinase inhibition and PI3K pathway abnormalities.

Dr Neil Gibson, chief scientific officer of Pfizer’s oncology research unit, said the identification of such genetic factors will aid the future development of new therapies.

He added: “Pfizer’s data at AACR demonstrates our strategic focus on the discovery and development of novel mechanisms that align complex biology with creative clinical strategies.”

Earlier this week, the company published new trial data for its overactive bladder syndrome treatment Toviaz, which demonstrated its efficacy compared to Detrusitol ER.
