Pfizer to support personalised cancer care consortium

Pfizer has announced its support for the Worldwide Innovative Network (WIN) Consortium, which aims to help make personalised cancer care a reality for patients across the world.

The firm is the first pharmaceutical company to become a member of the consortium, allowing it to ally with academic, industry and patient advocacy groups in order to facilitate further progress in this field.

It will be able to offer advanced capabilities in the development of targeted oncology therapies that will greatly benefit other consortium members in terms of insight and opportunities.

Currently, there are 25 members of the WIN Consortium, which is headquartered in Paris and was established in 2010.

Dr Richard Buller, vice-president of translational oncology for Pfizer's oncology business unit, said: "Personalised cancer care is an important part of our mission at Pfizer and this initiative provides a unique forum to collectively share insights, exchange ideas and positively impact cancer patients."

This comes after the company announced a new drug discovery collaboration with Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Therapeutics last month.
