Pfizer wins award for corporate citizenship

Pfizer has been presented with an industry accolade for corporate citizenship, recognising the work conducted via its Global Health Partnerships programme.

The company has received the 2011 Business Civic Leadership Center's corporate citizenship award in the best international ambassador category, honouring the success of its efforts to improve healthcare standards in the US and abroad.

Through the Global Health Partnerships scheme, Pfizer has invested $47 million (29.94 million pounds) to support efforts to combat cancer and smoking addiction in 46 countries.

Pfizer was praised by the US Chamber of Commerce, which organises the awards, for creating a scheme that sets a positive example for other companies to follow.

Caroline Roan, vice-president for corporate responsibility and president of the Pfizer Foundation, said: "Through Pfizer's Global Health Partnerships, Pfizer supports the growth of promising cancer and tobacco-control organisations united by the shared mission of accelerating the pace of progress in the fight against cancer."

Last month, the company allied with Humana to launch a new research partnership that aims to help improve care standards for elderly patients.
