Pfizer’s Cardiac Drug Now Available for NHS Scotland

Pfizer revealed that their drug therapy for Transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATT-RM) can now be prescribed in Scotland by the NHS. Tafamadis, an oral drug, has recently passed Scottish Medicines Consortium regulations.
Transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy is rarely identified and development of the condition can lead to lack of blood circulating out of the heart.
Less than 100 people in Scotland over the age of 18 suffer from ATTR-CM and Life span from diagnosis can be as low as 2 years.
“Transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy is a rare, under-diagnosed and potentially life-threatening condition, for which there is a significant unmet medical need.” Stressed consultant cardiologist, Dr Caroline Coats.
CEO of Cardiomyopathy UK announced,” we’re pleased there is now an approved treatment option for eligible patients living in Scotland which could help improve their care.”
