Pharmacists Refuse Government Intent to Abuse them During NHS Strikes

Pharmacists have immediately pushed back on government intentions to enlist them as support during NHS strikes, deeming it a “categorically impossible” feat in the absence of extra funds.

Fin McCaul, a senior scientist, claimed that the industry is already experiencing labour shortages and should not be overextended to implement the objectives without increased input of funding.

In order to decrease the need for GP consultations, the plans would allow pharmacists to assess individuals for mild ailments and administer antibiotics.

However, a member of the RPS (Royal Pharmaceutical Society), Mr McCaul, explained that “to take this on with no increase in core funding, with no new funding, would be categorically impossible.”

“Half the pharmacies in the country are struggling to keep their doors open.”

“It would make far more sense for us to being doing this on a routine basis anyway because we’ve got the access to patients, the medicines and the testing. But we’re on our knees.”

A previous member of the RPS and current pharmacist, Reena Barai, commented on the irony of the situation: “this is something we’ve been asking for for months already, but like I say the Treasury haven’t come forward with the funding for this really valuable service.”
