Planmeca introduces new imaging mode

Planmeca has revealed a new imaging mode that is being introduced to its Planmeca ProMax 3D X-ray units.

This product has been designed for scanning impressions and plaster casts, with the impressions being automatically inverted to digital casts.

After this, the impressions are instantly stored in the Planmeca Romexis software in standard STL format.

Helianna Puhin-Nurminen, vice-president of the digital imaging and applications division at Planmeca Oy, explained the digital cast of the patient and CBCT can be superimposed – using Planmeca Romexis – which will enable further visualisation and planning to take place.

Ms Puhin-Nurminen stated: "The combined data set provides an artefact-free model about the patient's dentition including bone, crowns and soft tissue."

She added this model can then be used with regard to implant planning and for surgical guide manufacturing purposes.

For orthodontic practices, the Planmeca Romexis 3D Ortho Studio module can be used to further analyse the STL data.
