Procter and Gamble highlights clinical benefits of Oral-B Pro-Expert
Procter and Gamble has highlighted the effectiveness of its recently launched Oral-B Pro-Expert toothpaste in combating calculus.
Laboratory and clinical testing has shown that the new oral care product is able to inhibit the calcification of previously deposited dental plaque in the mouth through the use of the active ingredient polyphosphate, reports Dentistry.co.uk.
It does this by inhibiting the crystal growth of hydroxyapatite in the residual plaque, which prevents mineralisation and undermines the process of calculus formation.
Moreover, the combination of polyphosphate and stabilised stannous fluoride in the toothpaste has also been shown to provide long-lasting antimicrobial benefits.
"Its ability to inhibit bacterial growth, reduce bacterial adhesion and to affect microbial metabolic processes adds the double advantage of anti-plaque to the anti-calculus defences against gum problems," the report stated.
The Oral-B Pro-Expert toothpaste was launched earlier this year after being introduced at a seminar in Weybridge in January 2011.
