Procter and Gamble urges women to lower cholesterol

5th February 2008

A study from Procter & Gamble has claimed that women pay more attention to their hair than the safety of their hearts.

The survey found that 41 per cent of women will see their hair stylist three to four times a year, while a quarter of women has never had their cholesterol checked.

In order to encourage women to take care of their hearts and lower cholesterol, the company has launched the Metamucil 30 Day Difference campaign for heart health.

The campaign boasts actress Brenda Strong, best known for her role as Mary-Alice Young in the television show Desperate Housewives, whose mother suffered a stroke and two heart attackes and uncle underwent triple bypass surgery.

Ms Strong said: “”Coronary heart disease is the number one killer of women, but many women don’t know that coronary heart disease is largely preventable and women can take steps to lower their risk.”

She added that many people have seen their families struggle with heart health issues.

Last month, Procter & Gamble announced the publication of phase III clinical trial results for risedronate, its treatment for patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis, with the company testing varying dosing regimens for the compound.
