Quintiles announces research partnership with medical institutions

28th October 2009

Quintiles has joined forces with the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London to develop a new research facility in central London.

Under the terms of a collaborative agreement between the three parties, a 30-bed clinical research centre will be established on the 14th floor of Guy’s Hospital.

According to biopharmaceutical services company, the facility will be known as the Quintiles Drug Research Unit at Guy’s Hospital and will accommodate both patients and healthy volunteers involved in research work.

Eddie Caffrey, senior vice-president of global phase I at Quintiles, said that the collaboration will help the industry to “bring new drugs to market faster and with greater predictability”.

Meanwhile, chief executive of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust Ron Kerr explained that the research unit will benefit patients by ensuring “a smoother and faster clinical trials process”.

Mr Kerr’s organisation is one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK with over 9,000 members of staff.

Last month, Quintiles announced that it is sponsoring a new website containing information about ongoing and future clinical trials.
