Research States “Living Fillings” Could Rebuild Enamel
The investigation, conducted by specialists from the University of Washington School of Dentistry, produced organisms made of stem cells that produce the molecules that make up enamel on teeth.
The group of scientists now aim to create an enamel that is as resilient as real teeth, and to employ this enamel for reparation. This can require developing enamel for the use of treating cavities, or it could involve synthesizing enamel in a lab to use as a filling material.
This is a “crucial first step,” according to Hai Zhang, director of restorative dentistry and one of the research’s co-authors
