ResMed-sponsored study enrols 1,000th participant

23rd May 2012

ResMed has enrolled its 1,000th participant for a sleep apnoea study, bringing it close to its ultimate aim of reaching 1,250 patients for the SERVE-HF test.

Starting in 2008, the research hopes to reveal the efficacy of treating sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) in heart failure patients, drawing a connection between the two conditions.

Patients with heart failure issues may have an abnormal waxing and waning breathing pattern, resulting in SDB, which can damage their quality of life and increase their mortality rate.

Principal investigator Martin Cowie, of the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, said: "SERVE-HF is the world's largest study for any aspect of SDB and it has involved significant collaboration among sleep physicians, respiratory physicians and cardiologists across Europe."

The project will be carried out at over 80 sites around the globe, including facilities in Germany, the UK and Norway.

ResMed recently announced plans to initiate a dividend scheme beginning in the fiscal year of 2013.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801370044-ADNFCR
