Saga over 50 survey ranks NHS hospitals
A survey has been carried out into the treatment of patients at hospitals that cater for the over 50s, with the best and worst hospitals ranked accordingly.
The Saga research, carried out by analyst firm Dr Foster, looked at quality of care, patient experience, infection control and access to services.
In total, 265 NHS hospitals were rated in England, Scotland and Wales with the Royal Marsden Hospital in London topping the chart. The number of hospitals in Britain ranked as excellent for the over 50s stood at 26.
“This survey provides a snapshot of how the NHS is meeting the needs of today’s over 50s. It is encouraging to see the majority of hospitals performing well, and this is a tribute to the dedication of NHS staff,” said Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of Saga.
“If people are to make use of the new freedoms to choose the hospital they are treated at, there will be a growing demand for a guide that helps people navigate through NHS performance statistics.”
In England, it was found that waiting list times are decreasing, but unfortunately in Scotland and Wales waiting times have either stayed the same or increased, according to Saga.
Scarborough General Hospital in the Yorkshire and Humber region was the worst performing hospital in England, with zero credits out of a possible ten.
