Sanofi and Genzyme receive EU Aubagio approval

3rd September 2013

Sanofi and Genzyme have been granted European regulatory approval for Aubagio, a new treatment for adult patients with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis (MS).

The European Commission has granted a marketing authorisation to the drug based on the results of the phase III Temso and Tower trials, which showed that it can deliver a positive effect on disability progression.

Sanofi's research and development organisation has been working on Aubagio for more than a decade, with the aim of providing MS patients with a safe and effective treatment with convenient dosing options.

The drug is also approved for use in the US, Australia, Argentina, Chile and South Korea.

Genzyme's chief executive officer and president David Meeker said: "Today's approval of Aubagio is another step forward for Genzyme as we work to develop important new treatments that can address the diverse needs of the MS community."

Sanofi and Genzyme are also currently seeking European regulatory approval for the MS drug Lemtrada, which was granted a recommendation by the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use earlier this year.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801632735-ADNFCR
