Schering-Plough announces organisational changes

Schering-Plough has announced a number of leadership and organisational changes at its research and development arm, the Schering-Plough Research Institute (SPRI).

These include the immediate appointment of Jacqueline Elbonne as vice-president of global research quality, with responsibility for leading a team overseeing all SPRI activities governed by good pharmacovigilance practices, good clinical practices, good laboratory practices and good manufacturing practices.

Additionally, Martin H Huber has been appointed vice-president of global pharmacovigilance and Hans Rekers has been selected as new chief medical officer for Europe.

“[Mr] Rekers will continue his current responsibilities and additionally will serve on Schering-Plough’s Safety Review Board and on the company’s preparedness response team,” Schering-Plough reports.

“He will also interact on product-related issues with worldwide health authorities and professional societies, manage medical aspects of litigation issues and work with medical directors from country operations on risk management and product-specific issues.”

The firm adds that Mr Rekers will also continue with his current responsibilities, while he and Mr Huber will report to senior vice-president and chief medical officer Robert J Spiegel.

Last month, Schering-Plough announced the election of Craig B Thompson to its board of directors.
