Siemens introduces dual energy apps for general imaging

Siemens Healthcare has announced the development of ten dual-energy applications for general imaging use following the introduction of the dual-source Somatom Definition CT system.

At the annual international symposium on Multidetector-Row CT held in Las Vegas last week, the company presented its Optimum Contrast software which brings new levels of contrast to sectional images created with such applications.

It reports that the development of this technology has expanded the use of dual-energy applications from special clinical investigations to a broad range of routine examinations.

As a result of this progress, CT systems can now combine the advantages of low and high voltage values – of 80 and 140 kv – in every image.

Andre Hartung, vice-president of marketing and sales of the computed tomography business unit at Siemens Healthcare, said: “We at Siemens see a vast potential for dual-energy imaging combined with tools such as Optimum Contrast to provide a dimension of contrast in CT, improving diagnostic outcomes and simplifying complex workflows.”

Her added that Optimum Contrast combines the benefits of dual-energy imaging with routine CT scans and optimises the image quality seen in all contrast medium examinations.

Last month, Siemens announced the launch of a new breast screening to make patients more comfortable and speed up the mammography process.
