Siemens launches new assay for rheumatoid arthritis detection

Siemens has announced it has made detection of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) easier with the launch of its new assay.

According to the firm, its new Anti-Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide (anti-CCP) IgG assay is now available for sale outside of the US for the first time.

Studies conducted by the company have found that the assay boasts a specificity of 99 per cent.

The firm said in a statement: "The anti-CCP assay from Siemens is an accurate marker for RA diagnosis and RA differentiation from other arthritic conditions."

RA is believed to affect around one per cent of the population, so the confirmation of the new assay from Siemens could be a big step towards being able to detect the condition at a much earlier stage.

This coincides with the news that the firm has launched a new Point of Care Ecosystem offering in a bid to manage challenges of increasing activities and responsibilities.
